What is Aromatherapy?

Aromatherapy is a holistic therapy using pure, therapeutic grade essential oils to help boost the immune system and improve health and well-being.  Smell is the most underrated of the senses, yet it has the most subtle significance in our lives.  It arouses a very primitive area of the brain, below the level of conscious thought, and even a few atoms of scent can have an immediate effect on the body's systems, triggering changes in our physical state as well as our emotional reactions.  People from all around the world have been using aromatherapy and essential oils for thousands of years to cleanse and heal the body and mind.

What are Essential Oils?

Essential oils are the blood of the plant that are distilled from seeds, bark, leaves, stems, roots, flowers, fruit, etc. Clinical research shows essential oils can quickly raise the frequency of the human body and increase the production of white blood cells, which help fight infectious illnesses.  Essential oils have a bio-electrical frequency that is several times greater than the frequency of herbs and food.

How does it Affects Us? Scientist have discovered the impact emotional and mental factors have in maintaining our physical health.  Essential oils benefit our emotional and mental state as well as our physical body, because they can cross the "blood-brain barrier" and reach the brain centers responsible for the deepest human instinct and emotions.

How does it work?  Molecules of essential oils are transmitted to the brain via the olfactory bulbs (responsible for our sense of smell), which are located above and behind the nose.  Every endocrine gland in the brain is affected simultaneously and instantly within microseconds of the inhalation of essential oil molecules. The impulses are then carried past the pineal and pituitary glands right to the amygdala.

In 1989 it was discovered that the amygdala plays a major role in storing and releasing emotional trauma.  Dr. Joseph Ledoux of New York Medical University views this as a major breakthrough in releasing emotional trauma.

Research at Cornell University discovered that the only stimulus that triggered a response in the amygdala was smell. The amygdala plays a major role in the storing and releasing of emotional trauma.  The only way to stimulate this gland is with odor and aroma.  This research demonstrates we are now able to release emotional trauma with the use of aromatherapy and essential oils.  When this gland is stimulated, old experiences often come to the surface.  The amygdala is the gland that controls trauma, sexual drive, desire, appetite, flight and fear.
